How to Obtain a Work Permit

 

**Students need to secure a job BEFORE obtaining a work permit**

 

A work permit is a legal document required by the state of California that allows a person under 18 years of age to hold a job. 

 

You must have good attendance and be academically eligible (2.0 GPA or Higher).


Follow these steps in obtaining a work permit:


1. To access the form, go to CDE Form B1 for a fillable form, then print. 

 

2. Completely fill out the personal information at the top of the application, have your prospective employer fill out the information required in the middle portion and sign, and have a parent or guardian sign the bottom portion of the application. 

 

3. Email, Fax or mail the completed work permit application to the main office, attention Sharon Silva, ssilva@gormanlc.org, where the work permit will be processed OR Email or mail the completed work permit application to one of the HS Counselors where the work permit will be processed.

4. The work permit will be mailed directly to the employer unless other instructions for pickup are provided.

 

Things to Note:

  1. The student's social security number is required to process work permit
  2. Student ID will be verified through district records
  3. The Completed "Official" work permit is signed by the student and the school authorizer 
  4. Each New Job requires a new work permit 
  5. Minimum 2.0 GPA required for a work permit and no F's last Quarter
