BOARD MEMBERS

Gorman’s board of directors provide insight, leadership, and guidance to ensure all students have a quality public education.

Amber Solórzano (Board President)

Hello, I’m Amber, and I am honored to be a part of the Gorman community. Armed with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a Paralegal Degree, I bring a unique blend of business expertise and legal wisdom to my role. However, my most rewarding experience has been homeschooling three remarkable children within the Gorman community over the past 5 years.

One of these children benefited significantly from the SPED Program, imparting invaluable lessons on personalized education, and highlighting the significance of a dedicated and empathetic team. Presently, I am also guiding the educational journey of my niece, whose progress owes much to the collaborative community partnerships and services facilitated by Gorman. The support provided by our PLT has been instrumental in navigating the diverse educational paths of all our children.

Additionally, I take pride in my son’s early graduation, made feasible through Gorman’s Dual Enrollment program, enabling him to obtain an Associate of Arts in Business Administration concurrently with his high school diploma. This achievement shows the avenues for academic excellence and future prosperity that Gorman fosters.

My passion lies in seeing every Gorman student thrive in the future. I believe in fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where each child can excel academically and personally. My goal is not only to empower parents and students but also to create a nurturing atmosphere where every student can explore their potential and aspirations.

Together, let’s pave the way for a future where every Gorman graduate is well-prepared for success in higher education, the workforce, and life beyond.

Angela Helton (Board Vice President)

My name is Angela Helton, and I am honored to serve on the Board of Directors. As a proud mom of three, family is at the heart of everything I do. Two of my daughters attend Gorman, which deepens my connection to the school and its mission. I was raised across the states of Georgia, Alaska, and Florida, and now California where I have settled to raise my family. Since my dad was in the military, I was raised with the mindset that if I wanted something, I had to work for it; which I believe made me who I am today. Although I work hard in what I do, I still find time to have fun and do things outside of work that make me happy.

I have a background in accounting and bookkeeping, which has given me strong foundational skills that I bring to the board. Professionally, I now have over eight years of experience as a realtor, helping families find their perfect homes and navigating the complexities of the housing market. As my career advances I have become an expert in the field, now serving the Antelope Valley and surrounding areas.

Outside of work and volunteering, I love spending time outdoors. Bike riding at the beach and camping are my favorite ways to unwind and connect with nature, often with my family by my side. I’m passionate about supporting initiatives that build strong communities and create opportunities for growth, and I’m excited to contribute my time and skills to furthering the board’s goals.

Shannon Beck (Board Secretary)

My name is Shannon Beck, and I am thrilled to serve on the Board of Directors for Gorman Learning Charter Network. As a proud mom of five boys, ranging in age from 16 to 35, and a grandmother to three wonderful grandchildren, I’ve dedicated much of my life to nurturing young minds and fostering growth. My husband and I have been married for 18 years, and together we run our family business, Paradise Landscape Inc.

With over 25 years of experience as a Registered Dental Assistant, primarily in orthodontics, I’ve always loved working with children. Getting to know their unique personalities and being a small part of their journey has been a joy. Beyond my career, I’ve served in various roles that align with my passion for education and youth development. From teaching Sunday School and volunteering in youth groups to being an active presence in my boys’ classrooms and serving on PTAs, I’ve remained committed to supporting children in meaningful ways.

I strongly believe in the transformative power of homeschooling, having seen the positive impact it can have on families. My goal on the Gorman Learning Charter Network Board of Directors is to assist new homeschooling parents who may feel overwhelmed by the journey, helping them navigate with confidence and purpose. By walking alongside these families, I hope to empower them to create enriching educational experiences for their children.

In my free time, I enjoy gardening, caring for our animals, and decorating cakes for fun. These hobbies bring balance to my busy life and reflect my love for creativity and connection. I’m honored to be part of Gorman Learning Charter Network and look forward to contributing to its mission of supporting families and students.

David McGovern (Board Treasurer)

Hi Gorman community, I’m David and I have a deep commitment to faith and family values. With a passion for ensuring that every child receives a rigorous, classical education, I believe in preparing students to become responsible, contributing members of their community.

In addition to my work on the Gorman Learning Charter Network Board of Directors, I serve as the Senior Pastor of Acts Church in Los Angeles, a position I have held since 2013. I am also the owner and director of Vessel Coffee LA, a business that donates all its proceeds to combating homelessness and fatherlessness in Los Angeles County. With an educational background in Business Administration and Nonprofit Management, along with my experience in ministry, I believe I bring some unique leadership principles and organizational experiences to my role on the board. As such, I am committed to empowering the Gorman families and fostering an environment where our students can thrive both academically and socially.

I am a proud family man and I have been married to the love of my life, Monique, since 2005. Together, we are the parents of four incredible daughters – all who attend Gorman – and two lively Australian Shepherds (who do not attend Gorman). My passion for community, family, and faith drive me to serve and lead in the Gorman network in any way I can.

Sarah Hayworth (Board Member at Large)

My name is Sarah Hayworth and I live near Redlands being a lifetime resident of the area. I studied criminal law and obtained a paralegal certificate specializing in criminal law. I was also a mail carrier for the United States post office, worked for San Bernardino Unified, and am currently a realtor of over 14+ years. My hobbies and interests consist of muscle cars, growing my own food, canning, baking, and finding the perfect properties for my clients.

My husband and I have 3 daughters ranging in ages 37 to 14. Our 14 year old daughter has become a cowgirl and enjoys riding, gymkhana, and rides with the local CSHA region 14. Our daughter was given the opportunity to ride horses through Gorman and her riding skills have become so advanced that she is now teaching lessons and caring for the horses where she started riding. We have Gorman to thank for much of her success. My husband and I have strived to teach our daughters good morals, values, standards, and virtues, which are very important to us.

I became a board member with the hope that I could give back to our community, Gorman, and help others who are thinking about homeschooling their children. I look forward to my continued service to GLCN, its students, and parents throughout the surrounding communities and am dedicated to helping our learning centers thrive.
